Building exterior and decking inspection
Year
2021

Our team was engaged to conduct a detailed condition assessment of the external decking structure of a seaside building. Due to the building’s coastal location, the deck is exposed to harsh environmental factors such as saltwater, humidity, and strong winds—conditions that accelerate material deterioration. The objective was to document the current state of the decking and identify any visible defects that might require maintenance or repair
Scope of Work
- Ground-Based Visual Inspection:
We performed a systematic visual walkthrough of the deck area, capturing high-resolution photographs of all accessible components, including timber surfaces, fixings, and supporting elements. Observations included signs of wear, corrosion, warping, and potential safety risks. - Aerial Drone Imaging:
To complement the ground assessment, we deployed a drone to inspect elevated, hard-to-reach, and over-edge sections of the decking—areas not easily accessible from the ground. The drone captured detailed imagery of the deck surface, joints, external edges, and connection points to the main structure.
Outcome & Deliverables
- The combined ground and aerial inspection provided a complete visual record of the decking's current condition. This approach enabled the client to identify priority maintenance works, plan repair strategies, and establish a baseline for future monitoring—all without the need for scaffolding or disruptive access equipment
